The move was largely driven by opportunity. It had been my plan to retire here since the mid 90s, but remote work made it possible to literally live wherever I want to. If that opportunity had not presented itself, I would be grumbling about the state of the union from my suburban home in WA state.

I can't say that there's one singular thing that stands out, expect perhaps that America writ large appears to pride itself on being different from our international peers in the shittiest way possible.
