Tendency to the past?

Tendency to the past?
I have been wondering, why do we keep going back to the age of swords/medieval times when imagining adventures?

For example, swords. It is very common for the protagonist of stories to use swords, which also have a name and become a representation of the character. Take for example the manga Berserk, with Guts (the protagonist) and his sword Dragon Slayer. Most epic stories do not use guns as the main weapon, and even when they do, they are just a weapon, rather than an extension of the characters. We see this across all cultures and history. For example, Excalibur in Britain, or the 7 legendary katakanas in Japan. Yet such phenomenon has still to happen with guns.

Then the setting. Adventures taking place in the age of castles, rustic houses with wood fires, fantastic forests, etc. Take for example Harry Potter. At the start of the story he lives in a very contemporaneous setting. Modern houses and regular trains. But when he arrives to the academy, it is a castle. There are no concrete roads, etc. Why? Why cant the academy be a modern building? Perhaps the first thought is that it would be "boring".

Why do you think this happens? And do you think that in hundreds of years our present will be depicted more in art? Or that the age of castles and swords will prevail?
