Ultimately Job's faith was made stronger, not weaker, by the suffering poured out upon him. And would if one man's suffering could inspire 10,000 more to lead a more virtuous life as a result? Job is a book which separates the wheat from the chaff, those who just want rewards for doing the right thing might not make it through tribulation if they believe in a simple God who always punishes evil right away, and always rewards good here on earth. Sometimes we have to wait longer than we would like for God's justice to shine.
This amounts to a divine threat, you realize that, right? If the only way God could manage to get 10 000 to lead a more virtuous life was by tormenting an admittedly righteous man (a man God already knew was righteous), it doesn't speak very well of God.
