Gee, I wonder how combatants in a conflict might be experts on the fact that there was one? It's a mystery!
I guess we're all crisis actors. Probably got the bodies from local morgues and buried them in mass graves ourselves, so that we could wander around through shitholes full of unexploded ordinance to dig them back up. The whole conflict being televised is easy to explain away, just green room stuff...neveryoumind the timeline.
