Apparently evidence has been uncovered for successful surgical limb amputation of lower leg carried out 31000 years ago by hunter gatherers in Borneo. Bone growth at the site of amputation show patient lived for a considerable time after the amputation.
Previously it was believed complex surgery techniques only developed after settled farming communities have developed. The ability of a ambulatory hunter gatherers community in highly mountainous area to execute such surgical operations and then nurse a mobility impaired patient through recovery was previously unexpected.
When you see Valkyrie slashing off limbs, remember she is only upholding one of mankind’s most ancient and hallowed traditions. And benefitting from 31000 years of technological progress, she would not botch the job so thoroughly that the patient actually live to grow new bones,
