There are many different histories of it, because there were multiple instances of independent construction. You may believe, for example, that many of those instances were not independent, and that they were somehow influenced by a single literary tradition - but that gets dashed against the acknowledgement of meso-american myths to the same effect, as pointed out in my post immediately prior, in addition to appearing in your own prior to that.
