Atlantis! 

It seems like Atlantis could not have existed because it would have been too big not to be noticed by now. This is Plato's description of Atlantis: there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together.

So if there existed something bigger than Asia and most of Africa put together, someone else would have noticed it, as well as we would easily find remains of it.

I went through a period of time in my teens when I was fascinated by the possibility of Atlantis being real.  I read several books about it.  I think it was around the same time that I gave up on religion that I also gave up there being a real Atlantis.
