Soooo...if someone asks what the letters of the rap group NWA mean, it is a violation to inform them. An absurd example ,for sure, but to me it illustrates the absurdity of assuming that grown-ups cannot hear ugly words.

That said, if the forum rules said all posts had to be written in third- person, then "dems da rules" and I could find another forum. So I have no problem with forum rules.

But what would you expect from atheists.

Now, you get to decide if I just violated the rules by using the word atheist in an insulting way. Can "atheist" be a slur? I think the personal experience of most who had a repressive religious upbringing know that to be called an atheist would be a slur.

What an incredibly stupid question.

Having a butcher's at our Rules page is a terrific way to find answers to questions like this. The hate speech rule, which (again) has been in place for a long, long time, specifies that hate speech targeting 'race, gender, sex, and sexual orientation' is what is prohibited. Until 'atheist' falls under one of these categories, I think you'll be safe using that word.
