Personally, I think he panders to the right to sell them cars. They are, after all, the least likely to buy EVs since they are the most likely to deny anthropomorphic global warming.
Than again, he could just be that stupid.
He panders to authoritarians because he needs access to their materials and markets, his companies are valued not on what they have - but based on that premise.
I see IA has been back, too, looking for some way to salvage these past few years of his life wasted chasing every white rabbit down every alt reich hole.
