I was in at the time of the transition from C rats to MREs.

Yeah, C-rats were in surplus stores by the time I enlisted. I ate plenty of them, and K-rats too, thanks to my dad, who was in until 1972. I remember liking the peanut butter and the peaches, but at six years old I had no idea if they were actually good.

I had a mate in the UK who served in Vietnam and affectionately referred to ham and lima beans in the ration kit as ‘ham and motherfuckers’.
