While my inner librarian agrees with you, and shrieks at the very idea of defacing a book in any way, shape, or form, the fact is that book burning is not a crime and is an expression of opinion. Puerile, senseless, and inconsiderate of the feelings of others? Probably, but none of that makes it either illegal or objectively wrong.
