Feeling like an alien within your own skin, which is what I assume it feels like, would be a far deeper thing than just some arbitrary set of personality traits. The brain and its development is plastic, including in the realm of gender identity... distinct from biological sex; for most people they develop in tandem, but not everyone clearly. So in this world where there exists the means to create better harmony between those two aspects of a person, why would you deny that existential comfort to people just for the sake of better being able to pigeon-hole them by what is, or was, in their pants?
