In some places (like here for instance). This has become a tool for intimidating the masses (Just like it is described in the movie Fahrenheit 9/11). In those years the American public was kept at bay thanks to mass media with constant threatening messages on TV about “Terrorists” and the Bush administration channeled all that energy to create positive public opinion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which were largely unsuccessful and very costly ventures for the entire country (sorry if I am upsetting anyone ).
 
The same is happening here right now. Every 2-3 month or so we have some psycho cleric on social media. One of them wants to give some of our territory to Syria (don’t even ask), the other is insulting the founders of our republic, the other (that was just before the election) was calling people to mass murder in case the ruling AK Party lost the elections, another is seen attacking a left wing demonstration while shouting “death to infidels”.   
 
Still when I read this article on the Events in Pakistan, I concluded that these guys are simply not punished enough. And there is a parallel with the various sex scandals within the Catholic Church. I’m for more punishment. The main problem here is impunity
