Yeah man, I'm sure Thomas Aquinas, Saint Augustine, and many others were just dumb as rocks, definitely not intelligent people. I don't care if you don't believe in God, but do not call His followers stupid.
"Stupid" literally is when a fan of Aquinas argues that he knew about quantum physics, then gets so angry to the point he looks like he wants to beat the crap out of me, for simply asking for Aquinas's formulas. Yes, I had an asshole get so angry he threatened me because I kept on asking him for Aquinas's formulas. Aquinas was dumb as fucking rocks, and every religion has fans that pull this shit.
They will pull ambiguous quotes from antiquity and point to it and say, "See this proves this guy was right about what we know now".
Bullshit, otherwise I could argue with this same guy that he should be a ancient Greek polytheist because Empedocles came up with the idea of "elements" as in "earth stuff, water stuff, air stuff, fire stuff". Or that the ancient Greeks created the word "atom", which is not the modern definition. Back then "atom" simply meant the smallest thing you could think of philosophically that could not be divided any further. They had no idea what a Higgs/Boson particle was back then. They had no idea wat a quark or electron or protons or neutrons were.
I've had Muslims in other cases argue that Allah is the one true God because Arabs invented Algebra. I had another Muslim point to a verse and claim that Allah picks the sex of the baby based on congealed blood.
Those are all true stories in my 25 years of debate. Every religion in the world, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists ect ect, all have fans, members, "scientists", theologians who try to retrofit science after the fact to point to their club.
Don't believe me? Try this.
Do a google search, type in "Christian Science"
Then google search, "Science in the Koran"
Then, "Jewish science"
Then, "Buddhist science"
Then "Hindu Science"
You will find apologists of every label in those religions trying to get science to point to their specific club.
Saying "God did it" is stupid. It is literally intellectual laziness and worse, potentially precluding oneself from finding real scientific facts as to why something happens.
It ok to say "I don't know". It is arrogant to not only say "I know, but I am also going to base it on ancient mythology".
Aquinas didn't know shit, and the asshole who wanted to beat me up for questioning his logic was being a petty bully.
