It's not so much about the individual emotional distress the use of hatespeech causes, as rhetoric cumulative social effect of allowing free reign to use slurs, debunked studies, inflammatory rhetoric, hatespeech etc. on groups already experiencing increased danger, threat, political oppression, social ostracisation, health impacts and so on.

Bullshit! I'm one of those people. In fact, I'm probably more than one. I'm no victim. You do more harm in several ways than the ones you claim are harmful. And worse, you do it for yourself.

You using slurs against a trans person may or may not cause that particular person distress.  But a forum allowing free for all use of transphobic hatespeech will likely contribute to an atmosphere that pushes transfolks out of the space and also contribute to their risks, harm and oppression in the wider culture in RL.  

In short, it does more harm than good and has little to do with fragility.

Uh . . . did you just flip? It does more harm than good to pander to victimhood for one's own satisfaction?

If that's what you're saying I agree. This is just a stupid fad. You and I well know that anyone who harbors any secrets aren't going to tell them on a forum, especially one that is likely to ostracize them for it, unless, and I want to make this absolutely clear, unless they don't care what narrow minded people think about them and they are strong enough to face it and be themselves.

In the gay sub-cultures I used frequent we used those "derogatory" terms far more often than even the most homophobic populace. It's just nonsense. And though I don't typically use those slurs I sure as hell don't need protection from them.
