I used to be a freespeech fundamentalist. Over time I changed my view. I came to see that it made things worse rather than better.
It's one thing to have friends with established relationships use whatever language they want with each other, it's a whole other thing for hatespeech and false hate information to be used on a public forum.
Serious discussion on any topic can be had under careful supervision, in my opinion. Serious discussion doesn't require the use of slurs and hate rhetoric. The free exchange of ideas isn't really impeded, then. But vulnerable people are given more protection and rude behaviours are forced more out of the public sphere.
It is irrelevant that you are 'more than one of those kind of people'. Or that you perceive yourself as 'no victim'. That victims do exist is just a fact. That hatespeech makes more is, I believe, true. And many here belong to all kinds of minorities, myself included. It doesn't matter.
