Most humans are extremely stupid and think they will live forever, because their lives are not so bad that they wish for death, even though death is literally just the end of everything. So to answer OP, No, it does not actually make sense for people to be so picky about dating/sex partners. People should honestly just be fucking immediately after meeting each other, I can't think of a better ice breaker. But most people want to pretend like human life is something that it actually isn't, so you have all this ridiculous social posturing, obsessive grooming, buying nice things, etc. just to get laid. Let's just fuck, for crying out loud. We're all just animals anyway.
