Well, I broke my math bone when I was in the fifth grade, and it never healed right. Rendered my calculations to 2 + 2 = somedamnthing
Approximating the volume of a 6-8km thick shell on the outside of a large ~12000km sphere as the surface area of the sphere times the thickness of the shell will get you to within 0.2% of the true answer. The irregular shape of the terrain on the surface of the sphere will have a larger impact.
