God's will.....who needs it?

RE: God's will.....who needs it?
Hey,

Thank you Adrian, but I had not forgotten where I was. I am not confused of surprised that you all share the same attitude towards people thanking their God after a seemingly miraculous event. I am certainly not trying to censor. You can 'play' any way you like, but if you act too silly I feel the need to call you on it. Like I said, this is old hat, and I have heard the 'what about the others' whine before. The dad of the girl almost assuredly did not mean his daughter was 'special' or 'more important to god'. To say that he did is a lie, and although a logical conclusion of his sentence, very, very rude and lacking any composure or compassion.

I hear that you think I am being hypocritical, but please allow me to try to explain one more time. You are very rudely all ganging up on this poor man who lost most of his family recently, about a thing he did not say or intend to say. In this light you are all loudly stating your opinions on his life. I am coming in and chastising you for daring to have an opinion on someone else's life, where it is none of your business. If you misinterpret his soundbite ,fine, just do it quietly by yourself. On the other hand, my opinion of his situation is he can say what he likes. I am not passing opinions on something that is none of my business, I am advocating the guy you are word lynching because he has no defence here. In that description my opinion is in a different light than yours, and so I feel I am not being hypocritical.

We had this argument last week on the chemo thread. For you too call out a stranger in the news is rude. For me to call you on it is slightly different.

Quote:The don't be arrogant. Be thankful that you are alive, but thank the rescue teams who go to you, or thank dumb luck. Don't thank someone by unleashing the implication that you were somehow more special than everyone else on board.

This is what I mean. When you are in his situation, feel free to say whatever you want. But you are not. So he can thank whomever he wants. That implication exists only if your god is petty and arrogant. One that does not exist couldn't be more so, could it?
Then from bozo:
Quote:You miss the point. I repeat, please concentrate, if God is responsible for saving 1 out of 152, then he is to blame for the 151 dead.
I ask you directly how/why you can worship such a fiend?
I got that point, and am trying to tell you it is a very bad way to choose to look at it.
First off blaming god for death is silly. Of course it's kind of her 'fault'... Look, everyone dies. Did your parents have that talk with you yet? To say god is blamed for any number of people dying makes it seem like dying is a bad thing that should be avoided. Death is inevitable, unavoidable and very, very necessary. The new Saramago I am reading is about that. I can worship such a fiend because it is god. You go ahead and worship something that does not include death as a part of the system, and tell me about how it is rational and represents a healthy reality.

I don't expect you guys to understand, because of your atheism. But as much as it offends you that the man quoted thanked god, it offends that you instantly accuse him of intending any rudeness to the families of the people who did not survive. Remembering that his son and wife also did not survive.

I only feel the need to state my opinion of your opinion when yours crosses certain lines. But mine is worthless. I do it because it's the right thing to do.

I think the neighbour is practising sharia law on one of his daughters or something, gonna go check it out...
eternal love,
-Pip
