Some post on some thread.  Iirc, the gist was that my civil way of posting is interpreted as arrogant condescension and a more blunt manner would be better.

Certainly that seems the example set by longterm posters and mods.

The forum position of self-proclaimed intellectual to bash the members of the forum in passive-aggressive ways was filled long before you got here.
