Only psychopaths truly don't care at all about the opinions of others towards them.
But here this is simply one of practicality. I want to engage in enjoyable and profitable discussion. It seems my current civil polite tone rubs people up the wrong way and also does nothing to stop more aggressive posters being rude towards me. That is not want I desire. Leaving or changing tone seem obvious options to remedy the situation.
