By remembering that the future may look bleak, but it is not inevitable.
As for worrying about whether death is forever or there might be an afterlife. I haven't worried about that in four decades. Like @"Szuchow" I understand that I didn't exist for billions of years, and that going back to that state can only relieve what worries I do carry. Do the best with what I have now.
