This "apocalypse" thing is behind much of what drives this man. He believes fervently in the upcoming end of the world - be it from AI, nuclear war or something else entirely. That's what's behind his obsession with settling Mars. He probably also sees himself as a progenitor of humanity 2.0 which is why he wants children with multiple women - genetic diversity.
Clearly having no comprehension of genetic diversity...
He's geerating his own population bottleneck it would appear...
