I think the American form of government is one of the most beautiful of human creations. This is not saying it is perfect, or even close to being so, but that given the state of the art at the time in terms of governments, it was a masterstroke, and continues to inspire people around the globe.
That being said, I think that the U.S. rose to prominence by virtue of having an abundance of natural resources, rather than through any specific wisdom or greater competence than other nations. I fear that that superiority in resources ended some time ago, and, economically, the balance is beginning to redress (e.g. outsourcing of jobs to countries that offer better deals, tariff wars, etc.). And I'm not sure America is ready to be just another nation among nations. It's policies, domestic and foreign, are far from that endpoint.
