You don't have to be christened, baptised or any of that stuff, that's my take anyway, i think that's more to do with joining a Jesus cult like Southern Baptist, being a member of a 'special' Jesus fan club.
I'm a Southern Baptist and we do not believe that being baptized is a necessary part of salvation, there are denominations that do though.

A Catholic will insist one must accept the Nicene creed AND the seven sacraments, (Baptism,Confirmation, Penance, Eucharist,Extreme Unction (last rites) Holy Orders and Matrimony)
Even today,Catholics at an official level do not accept other denominations as 'true Christians',considering them ALL in error.
