Though here, we speak of the Byzantine empire, that kept all the knowledge of antiques that we do have, in reality all the parents of the eastern church, as
Basil the Great or John Chrysostom were scholars in Greek philosophy.
In this time in the west, the classical culture disappears from most places. But not because Christians wanted to destroy the ancient culture
John Chrysostom (that son of a bitch for this very reason) got a mob of Christians together and destroyed the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. Considered among the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD and only ONE COLUMN now remains BECAUSE of Christians.
Thanks a lot assholes
The temple figures in several Christian stories, and it would be a famous Christian archbishop that ultimately destroyed it.
...
In 401, the temple was finally destroyed by a Christian mob inspired by "golden-tongued" Saint John Chrysostom, who had recently come to Ephesus as its archbishop. Its marble stones were used in construction of other buildings, and some of the columns in Hagia Sophia originally belonged to the temple of Artemis.[4]
