Our political party system and its consequences are not even close to being as simple as people here are saying they are. Assuming that someone is blindly following a party just because they consistently support it is absurd. We live in a two-party system. That means significant changes are typically achieved except through one party having the majority of power at one specific time. If someone believes one of the parties is more likely to come closer to their wishes when they are in power, it is not at all "stupid" or "idiotic" or "blind" to support them.
If someone attempts to ignore the party system we have out of some righteous indignation, have fun. Just be aware that you will have almost no effect on any political topic as long as you are doing so. The party system we have sucks, but you can either choose to be so jaded that you let others make all of your decisions for you, or you can actually try to make a smidgen of difference. And yes, it will only be a smidgen if one at all - but by sticking your head in the sand and ignoring the current system you are guaranteeing you won't even have that smidgen.
