Without lye the soap won't break down in water (it's made of oil). It also is used to relieve the symptoms of poison ivy, reduce the symptoms of eczema, and kills fleas (it;s also the binder). There are probably alternatives though. Maybe try a glycerine base (common in hobby kits in craft shops)?
