Quote:Um...kind of backwards? No, I don't think. Why are you guys atheists? You surely will go on and on about evidence, logic and obvious conclusions. Well I have evidence of the possible existence of god, and it is logical to me. But we have stood at this point many times before. The things that are evidence to me might not make sense to, or convince yourselves. We are individuals like that. I think if you gave as honest an answer as to why your an atheist, it would be that you can personally disprove the theory.
Quote:Ever heard of the burden of proof?Nope. Hehe, this is also somewhere we end up a lot. I maintain my position on that. The burden of proof is one of your guys favorite tricks. If I claim there may be a god, I should try to back it up. If you claim there is not a god, the same applies. But you guys don't feel the claiming there is no god is a claim, or that disbelief in gods is a belief. I claim that I think there is a god, and that for me to explain why would make no sense to you. We've tried. I talk about the miraculous connectivity and functionality of the cloes system of the earthly ecosystem... The way ot answers the possible beginnings of the universe with something other than infinite cause and effect... But you guys will jump on that like it is open for debate. It is not. The reasons I have for believing in my god are personal. They are logical, and sensible, to me.
Quote:Well, that is - it's not a good reason for belief if you care about rationality, about evidence! The eternal philosophical conversation about the existence or non-existence of god exists in a realm devoid of the influence of evidence. The argument about god is an argument about ideas, not things.
Quote:Would Pippy say God is good? Where does he get that info?God is good, yes. We named the good god, so as to personify it. I get the info about gods goodness from my own personal conclusions and decisions about the nature of god.
Would Dotard say god is not? Where does he get that info?
Quote:Would Pippy say God is the creator of the universe? Where does he get that info?I have always been turned off by the beginning of the universe argument. It seems so unknowable, and kind of unimportant. It is possible that god created the universe, to me that makes more sense than randomness, and a string of miraculous (and infinite) coincidences. But I don't know, and have no way of knowing. I get that info also from my own conclusions after years of being on this ride. Would Dotard say the universe created itself? Where do you get that info?
Quote:Would Pippy say God is personal? Where does he get that info?Man I repeat myself a lot. God can both be personal, and objective. I believe in both faces, since it loopholes me out of the possibility of being wrong. It is easier and more common for the god argument to be personal, rather than objective.
Quote:Would Pippy say God approves of homosexuality? Where does he get that info?I don't know. My interpretation of god is that she doesn't care about little things like that. I really don't know though, and I care about that question even less than the beginning of the universe. I get that info from my own take on this world.
Quote:Would Pippy say God impregnated a human? Where does he get that info? No. I would not.
Quote:Where does pippy get the details about the God he purports to exist? From my life, from my pondering. Where do you get your spiritual beliefs? Dawkins books? I expect everyone to be responsible for making up their own minds. Where do you get the details about the non-existence of god?
As an atheist, where do you get that info?
For me, no book, no teacher. Just taking it all in as best I can, and making conclusions about what I see. We are all only human, with a capacity for curiosity and doubt, for disagreeing with others about fundamental truths.
Thanks, I love questions.
