While I am in favor of legislated morality and government intrusion into the bedroom were warranted by the Bible, I can't see how Christians can be so-called "pro-life". There is no point in the Bible where it says "life begins at conception". The best the so-called pro-lifers can do is wrench Jer 1:5 out of context.
Read in context, the Bible is saying that the Lord is able to see in the future and He had plans for Jeremy to be a great prophet.
The only place where the Bible discusses the death of an unborn is found in Exodus.
Translation into modern English: if you hit a woman with child and she miscarries but no further harm is done (aside from the dead fetus), then you pay a fine. If you do further harm, you shall give life for life.
This passage suggests to me that the unborn are not considered human beings under God's law.
Additionally, children are the property of their fathers. They can be slain virtually at will by the word of their father that the son or daughter is a drunk or a disobedient brat or whatever.
Even children after birth have no rights. The father can do with them as he pleases.
