My grandfather was from Chicago??? He had no trace of a southern accent, but I can't remember how he said 'pecan'. I don't know why I say it like that, honestly. I don't know anyone who puts more emphasis on the 'pee', so it must be a tennessee thing. I know the first time I heard it pronounced the way summer did was when I first watched When Harry Met Sally.
