When I was a young teen, and in singing lessons, my teacher complained that I sang everything with a twang. She made me learn this song in German because she said that no one could sing German with a southern accent.
Needless to say, I proved her wrong. Ha!
I try to be conscious of how I speak, but I can't wash the drawl out of my mouth.
Nor should you. I think you and Summer sound hot as hell with your slight twang. More could only be better. I was sorry Kichi too had such a slight accent. I've heard plenty of Ozians and even those living here were much more brazen. I think it will be hard to do it without getting all self conscious about how you sound.
Still I've got to give this a shot. I've lived most my life in California but I spent part of middle school and high school in Maryland where we said "hey" instead of "hi" and plenty of "y'all' and also spoke a hell of a lot slower than we do out here. I had to get speech help in elementary because "s", "th" and "z" aren't supposed to be the same sound. How annoying is that?
