I am happy to have come into this world in a region that is rampant with ignorance and make it to adulthood with my reasoning faculties in tact.
I was raised around people just like that. My sweet grandmother, who I loved, made us listen to Rush Limbaugh's "See, I Told You So" all the way to Florida. She was highly political and LOVED Newt Gingrich. My whole family was racist, and I often was made to be an outsider, and even beaten for my strong opinions, contrary to their own.
I don't know why it is that I always knew it was wrong. I always have been a liberal. Yes I was an idol worshiping Catholic for the majority of my life, but I always knew when somebody said something stupid, really and deep down, even in religious terms.
People here are taught to not question things. I have met a lot of great moderates and liberals here, but every conservative I meet here is the same level of batshit crazy. Maybe people in the south tend to be more serious about indoctrinating their children into a mindset of stubborn ignorance?
