Yup. My pride and joy was a Sony TC 560 ,I bought in Singapore in 1969. (duty free; $180. At home; $520)

I built my own set of speakers : 3 2X3 (I think,might have been six) cubic feet boxes with bass baffle, 2X8inch Kaltro woofers, 2X2.5inch tweeters,set up parallel to the 2 8inch eliptical lid speakers. The recorder had a 20 watt built in pre amp and amp. Plus I knew a record shop where I could get ANY album in the shop put it on tape for 50 cents. (my army pay was $60 a week, half as much again as a labourer at home.)
