There isn't much to be said about it, really. But I think the WWI was an even greater victory for our own ideals. It allowed us to create a nation state. What more could we want out of it?

With regards to Scottish Independence, who are the English really to have anything other than an opinion? They haven't seized your armories, so the need to defend oneself and preserve your Union is a bit out of the question. The fact that they're peaceably working through the process and have economic reasons that are not considered socially/ethically unacceptable certainly makes a comparison with our efforts to preserve the American Union shakey at best.
So I predict that if the Scots really want to be let go, England has no other choice but to accede. Their arguments for preserving it have not apparently swayed enough of the Scots.
