"Unnecesary" rears it's ugly head again. Honestly, if it's all "unnecessary" (which your ever changing goalposts would seem to imply) then you know what actually is "unnecessary"?
Your use of the term.
Just call it suffering, and then, when you're done calling it suffering (no modifier required), explain how livestock could not be produced without their suffering. I've personally seen (and owned) some pretty damned happy livestock.
