Purification of the soul is described in Rev 3:18, Dan 12:10, Mal 3:2, Matt 3:11, Zec 13:9 and elsewhere when reference is made to love for the Lord. Elsewhere in the scriptures fire symbolizes the infernal lusts for evil that destroy the soul. See Zec 9:4, Joel 1:19, Matt 3:10, and Rev 20:14,15. Hell is filled with the burning passions of lust and rage.

4. Will our souls remain in hell for eternity?No one has been in hell forever yet. Theoretically, those who remain in hell do so because they prefer the delights of hell over those of heaven.
