No, not locally, but there was a story in the news not long ago, about a couple that tortured their 15 year old nephew to death over 3 or 4 days, I think in London. They were witchcraft believing africans of course.
You did the right thing in stopping that bullshit there and then. You absolutely did.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
