(July 5, 2012 at 3:54 pm)Greatest I am Wrote: Is becoming like God good or evil?“Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.”
Taken in context, knowing good and evil is a bad thing. The next verse goes, "He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” God knows evil, but is not weak enough to be tempted by it. He is like a parent with a knife on the counter. He knows not to touch it, but his children do not.
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
Taken in context, Jesus is speaking nothing about knowledge. He is saying, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” ‘Perfect’ means righteous, and the meaning never changes throughout the Bible.
DL, show me a verse that connects knowledge to perfection.
Knowledge is not a good thing if it means sin enters the world. Freedom is no good if you use that freedom to do wrong. Why did God tell A&E not to eat the fruit- because he did not want them to have knowledge? If that was true, he would never have placed the tree there. Knowledge is not a moral sense. Knowledge is an awareness of the self. That is why A&E realized they were naked. Their attentions had turned inward—they became selfish. Selfishness is the root of all sin. Without knowledge of their body they could have remained loving and content. This sort of knowledge does not open up a world, but closes you off to the world at large because you are self-focused.
