Absolutely agreed!
As for my two cents:
(1) I disliked many of TOS episodes, but overall it's one of my favourites. And it can hardly be denied that there were some fantastic episodes—e.g., The City on the Edge of Forever, Space Seed, Mirror Mirror, The Doomsday Machine, Amok Time—which the remastered DVDs made all the more watchable:
(2) Similarly, I preferred the movies that featured TOS crew—at least, every other movie (q.v. the Star Trek curse). I agree with Binny, in that the movies featuring TNG crew "were just like extra long TV episodes," with First Contact being the sole exception. Insurrection was beautiful, but overall boring.
(3) I loved pretty much the entire TNG series, which I think explored social issues of contemporary significance more deeply than TOS but (probably) only because it lasted much longer. But kudos has to be given to the writing in TOS, being able to find its feet so quickly. Most TV series don't until well into their second season.
(4) I really loved DS9, but not until Season 3 with the introduction of the Dominion and especially the Dominion War story arch from Season 5 onwards. I also loved the relationship between Worf and Dax. Not too fond of Sisko but loved the rest of the crew.
(5) Only thing I hated more than VOY was ENT.
(6) My favourite Star Trek movies are (in order): Star Trek (2009), First Contact (1996), The Voyage Home (1986), The Wrath of Khan (1982), The Undiscovered Country (1991).
