Not in the People's Republic of Berkeley (California). Kids don't recite the pledge. Some parents complain if we have flags in the classroom. Personally that suites me fine.
I remember during the Viet Nam non-war deciding if my number was called I would go. So glad my number was 316. I am not the least bit patriotic but I would have gone out of a sense of doing my share. If I'd gone and ended up in a wheel chair I think I would have felt stupid for the rest of my life.
