What confuses me somewhat, is how much emphasis many skeptical people put on understanding fallacies, yet are often woefully ignorant of the many forms of cognitive bias. Both have comparable power in leading a rational person to invalid conclusions, yet cognitive bias is often ignored altogether. And in some ways, errors resulting from not appreciating cognitive bias are worse, as many operate at the unconscious level, where they are undetectable by the individual. You can reasonably determine if an argument is sound and valid, as the proof is in front of you. Not so with cognitive error.
