In prison, unless you can back up your uniqueness with overt threats of violence, you try your best to stick to the norm...if it is expected that you are to believe in God, you say you believe in God. I have heard this is the same way for troops in the US military.
Others just turn to religion out of shear desperation.
Actually atheists do tend to get their morality from the Bible and older religious codecs as well...for example, whenever you say someone should be a good Samaritan, you're referencing the Bible.
Polaris, you wrote this: "whenever you say someone should be a good Samaritan, you're referencing the Bible."
That's ridiculous!!! Nobody denies that the English language is very much influenced by CHristianity and Christian imagery but that doesn't mean people get their MORALITY from the Bible. They get the EXPRESSION from the Bible. Surely you can see the difference between the two??? Oh, for crying out loud!!!!!!!!
English language is influenced by pagans.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
