I think we might be moving into a new era where we are going to have to re-imagine the UN, like after WWII when we recreated the League of Nations to form the UN. Global climate change is going to push that envelope in my humble opinion. After all, we're all stuck on this one hunk of rock.
Just the suggestion of that is going to make a few million Jesus people wet their pants. I can't count how many I know of that are terrified that the UN is some kind of one world government from the book of revelations.
That being said, I think some kind of global government is needed and the UN can do it, but they're going to need to make some serious changes. With how globalized the world has become, we can't rely on local governments to handle everything anymore.
