Of the States, I mean. Under that context, the US ought not to sit in the UN human rights council.
Well, there is the technical separation of church and state in the US, as well as protected free-speech. But since you haven't opened the link, here's a sample of the text:
Faith-based violence is a continuing scourge in many parts of the world. In Nigeria[1], Algeria[2], Sudan[3], Libya[4], Egypt[5]and Mali[6] armed groups with religious agendas are perpetrating widespread human rights abuses with impunity. They attack, kill, maim, mutilate or rape anyone perceived or imagined to be opposed to their particular religious cause.
Faith-based violence by state and non-state actors also persist in Indonesia[7], Iran[8], Pakistan[9], India[10], and Saudi Arabia[11]. And victims are often unable to seek redress in the courts because of entrenched religious privilege, and the lack of separation of religion and state.
I agree the US's human rights abuses should also exclude them from the council, however this piece is directly related to faith based violence against other religious groups and non-believers.
