Please Explain to a Newly Inducted "Old Fart"

So I guess I've reached the age where I don't understand what "the kids" are talking about (at the ripe old number of 27, no less) and I'm currently breaking my brain on this.

Can some of the younger and/or more knowledgeable members of the forum explain what "scene" is? Why "scenepoints" even exist as A Thing? Why this is something only white people with first world problems would be interested in following? What makes a person part of a scene? What comprises "a scene"? I heard rockabilly was "a scene," and I love wearing neuvo-50's clothes (I look amazing in them) - do I run the risk of being assumed part of that scene because I wore something vintage with polka-dots and also have tattoos?

I want to know what separates them from any other portion of the human race who might like certain brands, colors or styles.
