No, I would be happy with their success. Most of the 12 steppers I've met only use the term 'god' in an almost deist context. There are several in my family that are no more religious than I am.
I am very honest with them and tell them that their success in the 12 step program had nothing to do with their tacking on the belief of a deity. They should take the credit, because they were responsible for their own success.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
