Facebook is a strange thing. I've had dustups with a couple of friends about them posting statements on FB that in my mind were clearly invitations to debate the subject that they commented on, yet they got offended when I posted replies that disagreed with their point of view.
I apologized and didn't do it again (after all, it is their FB page and they can use it any way they want), but it was a very strange thing for them to do in my mind. That you would post an inflammatory and controversial remark on a semi-public internet forum and then be offended when someone disagreed with you. What do you expect will happen?
