In his case, it maybe due to mental illness. It's often people with mental illness feel they should be leaders and enlighten people, and know more then people in general.
So I say, always try to give the benefit of the doubt.
Right up until the way he argued with missluckie. He clearly displayed in that argument that he assumes no one here could possibly have worked as hard as him, and he thinks atheists are all numbnutted idiots. He doesn't think we try. He assumes we're awful people. And then when faced with someone like luckie, he says quietly "I don't know why god didn't answer you." Forget why god didn't. Why would you assume we're all bad people solely for not believing in god? Because you're a bigot.
He has mental issues, that's for sure, but being an asshole isn't one of them. That's another issue.
