The difference is that when I go to study science, I can actually demonstrate the reality of the scientific method. And if my hypothesis yields no results, I don't continue to claim that it's true.
As for autobiographies... I don't really need to demonstrate that I exist if I'm writing one, do I? This is all hideously malformed.
